Long time friends, Chris Church and Matthew Peterson ignited their friendship by extinguishing smoke and fire as volunteer firemen serving Sister Bay/Liberty Grove for decades. Their friendship and service to the community has now parlayed into a business partnership where they invite the smoke and fire through BBQ! 

For years, Church and Peterson have teamed up in BBQ competitions throughout the

Midwest, most notably, Death’s Door BBQ competition annually held on Washington Island, where their team took 1st place in brisket and pork. Their ribs took home a 1st place trophy at The Masters in May event in Bancroft, WI and they have placed in several other backyard BBQ competitions.

While Peterson has been a successful Door County restaurant owner since 2002, Church, up until now, has moonlighted as a pit master while operating Church Automotive. However, after years of talking about their future idea of a mobile BBQ eatery in Door County, the teammates and long time friends have finally made it a reality.

Great Lakes BBQ Company specializes in in-house smoked meats, made from scratch perfected recipes accompanied with that mid western style hustle. Available for catering events, weddings and parties, Great Lakes BBQ Company will also be parked at various locations in Door County’s peninsula as well as participating in summer festivals throughout the season.
